Start date:

End date:

Type of work:

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberly is responsible for the construction and maintenance of a vast network of roads, as well as the disposal of waste for its townsites of Kununurra and Wyndham. To support these tasks, the Shire requires access to a secure supply of gravel and other basic raw materials, as well as a suitable site for the disposal of waste. With a number of land constraints affecting the Shire, it engaged Land Insights to conduct a scoping study into the options available on a number of sites to the west of the Kununurra Townsite.

The project focussed primarily on identifying the various land administration constraints over each site with a view to future reservation. The project required Land Insights to engage with a number of agencies and identify the various clearances that would be required over each site. Legislation considered included the Land Administration Act, Local Government Act, Native Title Act, Mining Act and Environmental Protection Act. The study concluded with the process needed for each of the sites and made recommendations to the Shire regarding next steps towards securing land.
