Sofia Nurrasyida

I am a Planner and GIS Specialist at Land Insights. My work covers development assessment, spatial analysis and mapping, planning research and strategic planning support. That can mean assessing development applications one week and preparing maps, reviewing submissions or contributing to a local planning strategy or scheme amendment the next.

Most of my work is with local governments in regional Western Australia. I came to planning from an architecture and urban design background, so I tend to look at a proposal from both the policy side and the design side, and to think about how a decision will affect the way people actually use a place.

I particularly enjoy the spatial side of the work. Good mapping takes a complicated set of constraints and makes them legible, both for the people making the decision and for the community affected by it. The rest of the appeal is problem solving. Every project brings its own mix of policy, site constraints and practical realities, and working through that to a sensible outcome is the part I like most.

I hold a Master of Urban Design from the University of Western Australia and a Bachelor of Architecture from Gadjah Mada University in Indonesia. Outside work I enjoy baking and cooking, reading, watching drama series, and tracking down new places to eat.
