Nomad Energy and Atmos Renewables needed development approval for a 125-metre meteorological mast on a cropping property 25 km south of Corrigin. The mast is the first step in assessing wind resources for a future wind farm in the area. Land Insights prepared and lodged the development application with the Shire of Corrigin.
The mast will monitor wind speeds and directions to inform the design of a future wind farm being developed by Nomad Energy, in partnership with Atmos Renewables. These companies are established leaders in Australia’s renewable energy sector, having developed large-scale solar and battery projects across the country.
The mast occupies less than 1% of the landholding, requires no vegetation clearing, and will operate for up to 10 years before being fully removed. The site will then be returned to full agricultural use. The installation supports the objectives of WA’s State Planning Strategy 2050 and aligns with State Planning Policies 2.0 and 2.5 on sustainable land use and rural diversification.
Land Insights led stakeholder engagement with the Shire of Corrigin and neighbouring landowners and coordinated an aviation impact assessment confirming no risk to local airspace.
Approval was granted in July 2024. The mast will operate for up to 10 years, after which the site returns to full agricultural use.
