In early 2011 Land Insights commenced the review of the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale’s original Rural Land Strategy, which was significantly out of date and not reflective of current values.

Land Insights worked with the Shire staff, Council and the community to develop a contemporary Rural Land Strategy to guide the Shire for the next 10-15 years.  The overall purpose of the Rural Land Strategy is to preserve and enhance the Shire’s rural character and its role as an important economic contributor to the Shire and broader region. It clearly indicated the high capability areas for agricultural land uses, considered how other rural uses (such as extractive industry and rural-industry) will be addressed, provided guidance on how the Shire should process planning applications in rural areas and established rural settlement patterns.

The Rural Strategy was adopted by Council and the WAPC and has provided guidance to the Shire’s currently draft Local Planning Strategy and Scheme.
