The Narrogin Solar and Battery Hybrid Project is a landmark renewable energy initiative led by Ace Power and supported by Land Insights. Located on rural land south of Narrogin, the project comprises a 200MW solar farm and a 200MW/800MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). Once operational, it will connect to the Southwest Interconnected System (SWIS) via the Narrogin South substation, contributing significantly to Western Australia’s clean energy transition and helping meet state and national renewable energy targets.

What We Did

Land Insights prepared the Development Application and supporting documentation, which included:

  • Site and environmental assessments covering flora, fauna, bushfire risk, acoustic impact, and traffic management
  • Community consultation with landowners, Shire officers, elected members, and the broader public
  • Visual impact analysis and mitigation strategies to preserve rural character and amenity
  • Strategic alignment with State Planning Policy and the Shire of Narrogin’s Local Planning Scheme No. 3
  • Design coordination for solar arrays, BESS infrastructure, and substation layout

Outcomes

The project received development approval in early June 2025, as confirmed by the Shire of Narrogin:

Key outcomes include:

  • A 4-year approval window to accommodate design refinement and staged construction
  • Continued agricultural use of the site through sheep grazing beneath the solar arrays
  • Significant local economic benefits, including an estimated 200 construction jobs
  • Establishment of a Community Enhancement Fund (CEF) to support local initiatives
  • A model for integrating renewable energy with rural land use and community values

Community Engagement

Two public information sessions were held in October 2024 at the John Higgins Community Centre, attended by over 30 community members, elected officials, and stakeholders. The sessions provided an opportunity to view project maps, ask questions, and understand the benefits and impacts of the development. The project has received strong local interest and support.holders. The project has received strong local interest and support.
