Land Insights led the development of the Ocean Beach and Peaceful Bay CHRMAP (Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan) for the Shire of Denmark. These two iconic settlements face increasing risks from erosion and inundation due to sea level rise and storm activity.
We worked closely with the Shire and community to assess these risks and identify practical strategies. The CHRMAP followed State Planning Policy 2.6 and focused on long-term resilience for both local infrastructure and natural assets.
Our work began with detailed mapping of erosion and flood hazards for the years 2030, 2070 and 2110. We used that data to identify areas of risk and explore options for managing them. At the same time, we ran community workshops and surveys to understand local values, concerns and preferences. This ensured the plan reflected both technical evidence and community priorities.
The final CHRMAP outlined a staged approach to adaptation. Key strategies included managing development in high-risk areas, investing in resilient infrastructure, and preparing for long-term relocation where necessary. We also provided clear triggers for future action and advice on funding and implementation.
This project highlights Land Insights’ capacity to deliver robust coastal planning backed by both science and local input. Our work helps local governments like the Shire of Denmark plan for change with clarity and confidence.
