CM Farms operates a large-scale, free-range outdoor rotational piggery near Albany in Western Australia’s Great Southern region. To support ongoing compliance and land stewardship, Land Insights led the CM Farms outdoor piggery environmental management process through the development of key planning documents.

This rotational piggery moves animals across paddocks to reduce erosion, manage waste, and improve soil health. However, it also raises risks related to nutrient build-up, runoff, and impact on nearby vegetation and waterways. To address these, we delivered a tailored Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for CM Farms that aligns with the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) guidelines.

The CM Farms outdoor piggery environmental management strategy sets rotation timeframes, buffer distances, erosion controls, and vegetation protection measures. It also includes practical monitoring procedures and adaptive management recommendations to support long-term site sustainability.

In tandem with the EMP, Land Insights assisted in preparing a Nutrient Management Plan to ensure responsible pig rotation practices. This included soil assessments, runoff control measures, nutrient budgeting, and mapping of infrastructure and movement zones.

Our work equips CM Farms with clear, compliant processes to operate responsibly within a sensitive landscape. It also lays the groundwork for potential expansion, improved reporting, and confident engagement with regulators.
